Generic Viagra (Sildenafil)
Same active ingredient — sildenafil — as Viagra®, at a substantially lower price. Produced by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers.
The same active ingredient, without the originator price
Generic sildenafil is the equivalent of branded Viagra® — not a different medicine, and not a “knockoff.”
Any switch between brand and generic should be discussed with your prescribing doctor. Reference prices are indicative public list prices and vary by market.

Sildenafil, explained simply

Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra®, a PDE5 inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction. Generic sildenafil contains the same active ingredient at the same strengths and is produced by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers, typically at a small fraction of the brand price. Used as prescribed by a licensed medical professional.
Viagra® is the originator brand for sildenafil citrate, developed by Pfizer. It is prescribed for erectile dysfunction in adult men. Sildenafil is also used, at different doses and under a different brand, for certain other conditions — but the erectile-dysfunction indication is what most patients search for. It is a prescription-only medicine.
Sildenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor. It works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis in response to sexual stimulation. It does not cause an erection on its own and only works alongside arousal, as explained in the patient information leaflet.
Sildenafil is prescribed for adult men with erectile dysfunction. Your doctor will check for heart conditions and medicines (especially nitrates) that must not be combined with it before recommending a dose.
Sildenafil is typically taken about 30–60 minutes before sexual activity, with a usual starting dose of 50 mg adjusted up or down (25–100 mg) by your doctor based on effect and tolerability. It is taken at most once in any 24-hour period. A heavy or high-fat meal can delay how quickly it works.
Never change your dose on your own.
Reported side effects of sildenafil may include headache, facial flushing, nasal congestion, indigestion, and temporary changes in vision such as a blue tinge. Seek urgent medical advice for a painful erection lasting more than four hours or for sudden vision or hearing changes.
Report new or worsening symptoms to your doctor promptly. This is not a complete list — see the patient information leaflet.
Store as directed on the patient information leaflet, usually at room temperature away from moisture and out of reach of children. Always follow the storage guidance supplied with your medicine.
The two most widely used erectile-dysfunction generics are sildenafil (generic Viagra) and tadalafil (generic Cialis). The headline difference is duration: sildenafil typically works for around four to six hours and is taken before activity, while tadalafil can last well over a day and is also available as a low daily dose. Sildenafil is more sensitive to food — a heavy, fatty meal can slow it down — whereas tadalafil is less affected. Neither is "stronger"; they simply fit different routines. Many men try one and then discuss alternatives with their doctor if the timing or side-effect profile does not suit them.
Sildenafil is usually started at 50 mg taken about an hour before activity. Depending on how well it works and how you tolerate it, your doctor may lower the dose to 25 mg (for example if you have side effects or take interacting medicines) or raise it to 100 mg. The maximum is generally one dose in any 24-hour period. Higher doses are not automatically more effective for everyone, and the right dose is the lowest that works well for you. Your prescriber will factor in your age, other medicines, and any heart or blood-pressure conditions.
Because sildenafil is off-patent in many markets, licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers produce it in several formats beyond the standard tablet — including oral jellies and chewable or dissolvable forms that some people find easier to take. The active ingredient and strengths are the same; the format is a matter of preference and swallowing comfort. All formats still require a prescription and the same precautions around nitrates and heart conditions. Browse the available options in the product grid above and discuss any preference with your pharmacist or doctor.
