Generic Imbruvica (Ibrutinib)
Same active ingredient — ibrutinib — as Imbruvica®, at a substantially lower price. Produced by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers.
The same active ingredient, without the originator price
Generic ibrutinib is the equivalent of branded Imbruvica® — not a different medicine, and not a “knockoff.”
Any switch between brand and generic should be discussed with your prescribing doctor. Reference prices are indicative public list prices and vary by market.

Ibrutinib, explained simply
Written and reviewed by our pharmacist team. Informational only — your doctor directs your treatment.
Ibrutinib is the active ingredient in Imbruvica®, a BTK inhibitor used in certain leukemias and lymphomas. Generic ibrutinib contains the same active ingredient at the same strengths and is produced by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers, typically far below the originator price. Used as prescribed by a licensed medical professional.
Imbruvica® is the originator brand for ibrutinib, developed by Pharmacyclics and Janssen. It is prescribed in the management of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, mantle cell lymphoma, and Waldenström's macroglobulinemia. It is a prescription-only specialist medicine.
Ibrutinib is a Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor. It blocks the BTK signalling protein that certain cancerous B-cells rely on to grow and survive. It is used as part of a treatment plan directed by your haematologist.
Ibrutinib is prescribed for adults with specific B-cell leukemias and lymphomas, as determined by a haematologist based on diagnosis, prior treatment, and overall health.
Ibrutinib is usually taken once daily, at about the same time each day, swallowed whole with water (capsules/tablets are not crushed or chewed). The dose depends on the condition being treated. Grapefruit and Seville oranges are avoided as they can affect levels. Follow your specialist's instructions exactly.
Never change your dose on your own.
Reported side effects of ibrutinib may include bruising or bleeding, diarrhoea, infections, irregular heartbeat, and high blood pressure. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take and report unusual bleeding or palpitations. This is not a complete list.
Report new or worsening symptoms to your doctor promptly. This is not a complete list — see the patient information leaflet.
Store as directed on the patient information leaflet, usually at room temperature away from moisture and out of reach of children. Always follow the storage guidance supplied with your medicine.
