What is Losartan?
How Does It Work?
Losartan selectively blocks the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, preventing angiotensin II from exerting its vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-stimulating effects.
Without AT1 activation, blood vessels relax, peripheral vascular resistance decreases, and blood pressure falls.
By reducing intraglomerular pressure and inhibiting aldosterone-driven sodium retention, losartan slows the progression of diabetic kidney disease.
