Venetoclax is the active ingredient in Venclexta® (Venclyxto® in some regions), a BCL-2 inhibitor used in certain leukemias. Generic venetoclax contains the same active ingredient at the same strengths and is produced by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers. Used as prescribed by a licensed medical professional.
Venclexta®/Venclyxto® is the originator brand for venetoclax, developed by AbbVie and Genentech. It is prescribed in the management of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and, in defined combinations, acute myeloid leukemia. It is a prescription-only specialist medicine.
Venetoclax is a BCL-2 inhibitor. It blocks BCL-2, a protein that helps certain cancer cells survive. Treatment usually begins with a carefully supervised dose-escalation schedule (a "ramp-up") to reduce the risk of complications, exactly as directed by your haematologist.
Venetoclax is prescribed for adults with specific leukemias, as determined by a haematologist. The supervised dose-escalation at the start of treatment makes specialist oversight essential.
Venetoclax treatment usually begins with a weekly dose ramp-up — for example starting at 20 mg and increasing in steps to a higher maintenance dose over about five weeks — taken once daily with a meal and water. The 10 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg strengths support this schedule. The ramp-up reduces the risk of tumour lysis syndrome and must be followed exactly as your haematologist directs.

Reported side effects of venetoclax may include low blood cell counts (raising infection or bleeding risk), diarrhoea, nausea, and tiredness. A particular early-treatment risk is tumour lysis syndrome, which is why the gradual ramp-up, hydration, and blood monitoring are used.
