Tenofovir DF (TDF) is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) used as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and children. TFV-DP competes with the natural substrate dATP, incorporating into the viral DNA chain and causing premature termination of reverse transcription.
