Doxorubicin is one of the most widely used chemotherapy medicines. It is given by drip (intravenous infusion) in a hospital or chemotherapy unit — never at home — usually every three weeks as part of a combination such as AC or FEC for breast cancer, CHOP or R-CHOP for lymphoma, or with other drugs for leukaemia, sarcomas and several other cancers.
It belongs to the anthracycline group and is recognisable by its red colour, which turns urine reddish for a day or two after each dose. Because the total amount received over a lifetime affects the heart, your team keeps a running total and checks heart function before and during treatment.
The products listed here are conventional doxorubicin vials (10, 20 and 50 mg), reconstituted and given by trained staff. Liposomal doxorubicin (Caelyx / Doxil) is a different preparation with different doses and is not interchangeable. Doxorubicin is a prescription-only medicine; a valid prescription must be provided at checkout, and it must be administered by a healthcare professional.
