Crizotinib is a targeted capsule for non-small cell lung cancer whose cells carry a rearranged ALK or ROS1 gene. It was the first medicine developed for ALK-positive lung cancer and is still used for ROS1-positive disease, where it remains a standard first choice, and for ALK-positive disease where newer drugs are not available. It is also approved for a rare childhood lymphoma (ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma) and for inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour.
It blocks the faulty ALK, ROS1 or MET protein that drives the cancer. Your tumour must have been tested for one of these changes before it is prescribed.
Crizotinib is taken twice a day with or without food, continuously. Vision disturbances (trails of light, flashes) are common and usually harmless; liver tests, heart rate and ECG are monitored. It is a prescription-only medicine; a valid prescription must be provided at checkout.
