Generic Afinitor (Everolimus)
Same active ingredient — everolimus — as Afinitor®, at a substantially lower price. Produced by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers.
The same active ingredient, without the originator price
Generic everolimus is the equivalent of branded Afinitor® — not a different medicine, and not a “knockoff.”
Any switch between brand and generic should be discussed with your prescribing doctor. Reference prices are indicative public list prices and vary by market.

Everolimus, explained simply
Written and reviewed by our pharmacist team. Informational only — your doctor directs your treatment.
Everolimus is the active ingredient in Afinitor®, an mTOR inhibitor used in certain breast and kidney cancers and some neuroendocrine tumours. Generic everolimus contains the same active ingredient at the same strengths and is produced by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers, typically far below the originator price. Used as prescribed by a licensed medical professional.
Afinitor® is the originator brand for everolimus (oncology indications), developed by Novartis. It is prescribed in the management of certain hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers, advanced renal cell carcinoma, and some pancreatic and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours. It is a prescription-only specialist medicine.
Everolimus is an mTOR inhibitor. It blocks the mTOR protein that helps regulate cell growth and blood-vessel formation in certain tumours. It is used as part of a treatment plan directed by your oncologist.
Everolimus is prescribed for adults with specific breast, kidney, or neuroendocrine tumours, as determined by an oncologist based on your diagnosis and overall health.
Everolimus is usually taken once daily, at about the same time each day, consistently either with or without food, swallowed whole with water. Your oncologist sets the dose and may adjust it for side effects. Blood tests are used to monitor treatment.
Never change your dose on your own.
Reported side effects of everolimus may include mouth sores, rash, tiredness, raised blood sugar or cholesterol, and a risk of lung inflammation or infections. Report new breathlessness or cough promptly. Your oncologist monitors blood tests during treatment. This is not a complete list.
Report new or worsening symptoms to your doctor promptly. This is not a complete list — see the patient information leaflet.
Store as directed on the patient information leaflet, usually at room temperature away from moisture and out of reach of children. Always follow the storage guidance supplied with your medicine.
