Regorafenib is a targeted cancer medicine taken as a tablet. It is used for bowel (colorectal) cancer that has spread and has already been treated with standard chemotherapy, for gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) that no longer respond to imatinib and sunitinib, and for liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) after treatment with sorafenib.
It works by blocking several of the signals that tumours use to grow and to build the blood vessels that feed them. It is a 'kinase inhibitor', not traditional chemotherapy.
Regorafenib is normally taken once a day for the first three weeks of each four-week cycle, followed by a week off. Your oncologist sets your dose and may reduce it if side effects — most often hand-foot skin reaction, tiredness, diarrhoea or raised blood pressure — need managing. It is a prescription-only medicine; a valid prescription must be provided at checkout.
