What is Sofosbuvir?
How Does It Work?
Sofosbuvir is a prodrug that is converted intracellularly to its active uridine triphosphate analogue (GS-461203) by hepatic enzymes.
GS-461203 acts as a chain terminator for the HCV NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, blocking viral RNA synthesis.
Sofosbuvir is active against all 6 major HCV genotypes with a high barrier to resistance, making it the universal backbone of HCV treatment.
