Rituximab is an antibody medicine given by drip (intravenous infusion) in a hospital or infusion clinic — it is not taken at home. It is used for cancers of B lymphocytes, including several types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, usually together with chemotherapy. Lower doses are also used for autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis and pemphigus.
The products listed here are rituximab biosimilars: versions of the original antibody made by a different licensed manufacturer and approved after showing they match the reference product in structure, activity and clinical effect. Vials come as 100 mg (10 mL) and 500 mg (50 mL) and are prepared by the pharmacy for infusion.
Your dose is calculated from your body surface area and the number of infusions depends on the condition. The first infusion is given slowly with pre-medication because infusion reactions are common on the first dose. Rituximab is a prescription-only medicine; a valid prescription must be provided at checkout, and it must be administered by a healthcare professional.
