Tucatinib is a targeted tablet for cancers driven by the HER2 protein. It is used for HER2-positive breast cancer that has spread — including to the brain — after earlier HER2-targeted treatment, taken together with trastuzumab and capecitabine; and for HER2-positive bowel (colorectal) cancer that has spread and been treated with chemotherapy, taken with trastuzumab.
It blocks HER2 very selectively, sparing the related EGFR receptor, which is why it causes less rash and diarrhoea than older dual HER2/EGFR inhibitors. It also reaches the brain, which matters because HER2-positive breast cancer often spreads there.
Tucatinib is taken twice a day, with or without food, continuously. Liver tests are checked regularly. It is a prescription-only medicine; a valid prescription must be provided at checkout.
